Marlborough has become New Zealand’s largest grape growing region with over 60 wineries, at least 290 growers and more than 8000 hectares in production increasing.

 

In 1973, Montana established the first commercial vineyard in Marlborough, so by world standards the wine industry is still very young here and yet has been most successful in producing some of the world’s best wines.

The Marlborough wine region is internationally renowned for its award winning wineries and attributes to more than 50% of the country’s wine export.

A lot of the success in the production of good quality wines within Marlborough is due to high sunshine, cool nights and long ripening season, intensifying the flavors and aroma. There are many varieties of grapes now being grown in the area, these include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir, to name a few.
